Warren E. Thornton Youth Center

Sacramento, California

This project was a major addition to the Warren E. Thornton Youth Center, a self-contained residential commitment facility for delinquent youth who do not require the security of a Youth Authority institution. The design expanded the capacity of the existing facility from 50 to 110 youth, and also enabled the accommodation of girls in the program. The project includes two new 30-bed housing units, each with dayrooms, medical screening rooms, counseling rooms, classrooms and support areas. The Design Partnership as Associate Architect.

The project was awarded the AIA Academy of Architecture for Justice Acknowledgment for Design Excellence.
