Christie Johnson Coffin, NCARB, LEEP-AP
Christie emphasizes making graceful, friendly places for people and designing future generations in mind. She says that the best places are “sustainable, functional, affordable, handsome, and filled with daylight.” Look for courtyards and gardens that bring daylight into her buildings, as naturally lighted spaces have been documented to improve productivity and mood, while lowering energy consumption. This interest was awakened early for Christie as an undergraduate in Le Corbusier’s Carpenter Center, which is characterized by a vital, changing play of light in each studio.
Christie has taught at several universities, completed research that resulted in a book on children’s hospitals, and planned hospitals, psychiatric facilities, university research laboratories, and one award winning community elementary school.
She enjoys finding the right physical form to fit a social need -bringing a collaborative, participatory approach and a commitment to developing a durable building concept - a concept that works today and works in the future.
